NEOTS warmed up for this weekend’s title decider at King’s Lynn with a goal-glut at Cogenhoe on Saturday.

Sharp-shooter Shane Tolley bagged yet another hat-trick, his sixth or better this season, which took his goals tally to a phenomenal 49 in just 37 games in all competitions.

And the win moved Dennis Greene’s side ten points clear of title rivals King’s Lynn – who won 5-0 at Daventry United on Saturday – ahead of this weekend’s showdown at the Walks.

The Linnets have three games in hand going into tomorrow night’s home fixture with Long Buckby.

At Cogenhoe, Neots were superb from one to 11 with six players on the scoresheet and left a decent home outfit in tatters.

The first 30 minutes were a close-run thing, but two goals just before the break - and then another three immediately after it - ensured an afternoon stroll in the sunshine for the Saints.

Dallas Moore opened the scoring when he fired home from 25 yards on 16 minutes, following up after Dominic Green’s shot had only been partially cleared.

But Cogenhoe were back on level terms after 26 minutes, when the visiting defence failed to clear and Tom McGowan sent his shot beyond the diving Luke McShane.

However this was only a temporary blip and, after 36 minutes, a delightful back-heel by Dan Jacob wrong-footed the Cogenhoe defence and Tolley easily beat O’Connor with a low shot.

Tolley made it 3-1 two minutes before the break and then a magic four-minute period straight after the interval sparked the rout.

A towering header by Will Fordham made it four on 48 minutes before Green planted a free-kick into the bottom corner of the net on 51. And within 60 seconds, Lewis Hilliard netted to make it 6-1.

Substitute Junior Kanuda fashioned the seventh goal, finding fellow sub Kieran Davies on the right, who crossed to give Tolley his hat-trick via a tap-in on 79 minutes.

Kanuda then got himself on the scoresheet eight minutes from time to finish it off.

The game also marked Micky Hyem’s 100th appearance for St Neots. He joins stalwart defender Glen Fuff, who also brought up a ton of club appearances recently.

St Neots: McShane, D Moore (Fuff 74), Hyem, Webb (C), Gayle, Fordham, Hilliard (Davies 55), Strachan (Kanuda 55), Jacob, Tolley, Green. Subs not used: Davis & Gent.
