LOLA enjoyed a successful end to the Le Mans Series at Silverstone on Sunday, as the RML team secured the LMP2 team and drivers’ titles.
The Lola-built RML finished the 1000kms race in fourth place in Lola’s home race to be crowned 2010 champions, with Mike Newton and Tommy Erdos also scooping the drivers’ title jointly.
It is the second time that the familiar partnership has taken the silverware, after their 2007 triumph.
Erdos began the race for RML, and despite a scare in the second hour after contact with a GT car, he handed over to Newton for a steady drive. Ben Collins, who joined the team in July, completed the final two stints to trigger wild celebrations on the RML pitwall.
In LMP1 there were fine fourth and fifth place finishes for the Aston Martin Racing and Rebellion Racing teams respectively.
The #009 Aston Martin Racing Lola LMP1 of Stefan Mucke and Sam Hancock finished fourth overall, and Nico Prost and Neel Jani’s #12 Lola Rebellion consolidated fifth place in the LMP1 drivers championship.
