DES Thresh saw his lead in the BMW Kumho Tyres Championship cut to just a single point after a mixed weekend at Rockingham.

The Huntingdon driver went into the weekend leading by three points, but a spinning car on the first corner of the first race forced him to take evasive action.

He dropped back from his qualifying position of 11th overall and second in class, and had to battle back through the field. He recovered to finish 12th overall, and third in class.

Sunday’s race was kinder to Thresh and he got a flying start to begin gaining positions. A finish in 11th overall brought him a class win.

Thresh now has his sights set firmly on the overall title, with a 30-point margin in his own B Class championship. Stephan Lanfermeijer is just a point behind in the overall standings as the championship moves to Oulton Park in Cheshire on September 25 and 26.
