HUNTINGDON’S Des Thresh wrapped up the class title and took a step closer to the overall 2010 BMW Kumho Tyres Championship at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

A second place and a win in class gave Thresh enough points to tie up the B Class championship with a round to spare, and increased his single-point lead in the overall standings to two points.

Thresh qualified in 10th position on the grid for the first race, but crucially put himself first in B Class.

He started well, but was passed by B Class rival Richard Marsh, who held him off for a couple of laps. On lap five, the two came together and both ended up on the grass.

Thresh was able to continue, only to be hit by another car, and ended the first race 10th, and second in class.

After some running repairs on the car, Thresh had his BMW patched up for the day’s second race. This time he made sure to keep out of trouble and enjoyed an uneventful to the chequered flag for a class win and ninth place overall.

With only one round of the championship to go, at Thruxton in two weeks, Thresh has a two-point lead over D Class rival Stephan Lanfermeijer.
