HUNTINGDON Piranhas had three swimmers compete in the first ASA East Region Youth Swimming Championships, picking up five medals. The event, held at the UEA in Norwich earlier this month, saw Laura Steadman, 14, take four medals to move herself further towards qualification for the World Class Start Disability Program next year. Steadman took a gold medal in the 200m individual medley and 100m backstroke, a silver in the 100m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m breaststroke. In her last major swim for the club, Claire Thwaites won her first medal at a regional championships, taking a bronze in the over-18s 100m backstroke. St Peter's pupil Steve Brooks reached the final of the 15-16 years 50m freestyle, narrowly missing out on a national qualifying time by 0.41 seconds. In the 100m freestyle, Brooks just missed out on the final but managed to shave two seconds off his personal best time. Piranhas Head Coach Ashley Morris was pleased with his swimmers.
