ST IVES Town won their third United Counties Premier game on the trot on Tuesday evening when they beat Holbeach United 2-1.

Both Saints goals were scored by Will Fordham – that’s three in two now for the player who has returned from a year with St Neots Town after spending the majority of his career at St Ives.

Co-manager Jez Hall said: “Three in two is great – he has now scored one in a 1-0 win and two in a 2-1 win.”

Fordham left St Neots last month after failing to prove himself to manager Dennis Greene – but he doesn’t need to prove himself to St Ives after making almost 400 appearances for the club before his year out.

“Their loss is our gain,” said Hall.

Fordham left it late with his second after getting his first in just the 12th minute. Conor Washington went close to getting a second but his shot fizzed over the bar and Holbeach equalised moments later when Andrew Tidswell found the net with a fantastic free kick.

Goalkeeper Niall Conroy-Owen had to make several big saves before Fordham got the dramatic winner with a back-post header in the 89th minute.

“We’ve really turned a corner,” said Hall. “Holbeach are a good side and maybe it would have been a fair result if it was a draw – but we managed to nick it at the end.”
