The club was only formed in 2014, but now boasts more than 60 members and fields four teams in the Bedford & District Netball League.

And it’s not just the quantity of players that is impressive – they are blessed with plenty of quality too. That was demonstrated by three cup final triumphs, one league title win and a promotion last season alone.

Their youth side – Rockets – triumphed in all four quarters of their First Division final against Grangers Thunder before the Panthers followed up to win the Fifth Division showpiece at senior level.

And the senior Sapphires side made it a hat-trick of cup victories for the St Neots club by beating Cranfield Eagles in the final at Division Two level. It was the third successive campaign in which they have lifted a trophy – each of them in a higher division.

Their latest success also completed an honours double as Sapphires won the Division Two title, while Panthers also gained promotion from Division Five in a memorable campaign.

Club chairman Cheryl Bryson said: “It was unthinkable when we formed our first ‘Back to Netball’ team in 2014 that they would be playing in Division One by 2018. It is very rare that a team is promoted in four consecutive seasons.

“All of our teams have worked very hard on their development this season and it has paid off.

“The growth of the club – especially at junior level – has really surprised us and we weren’t prepared for it initially.

“But I’m pleased to say we have adapted well and have more coaches on board to cope with the demand.

“Our club aim is to have a team playing in all six divisions of the Bedford & District Netball League so as we can provide women and girls with access to competitive netball at every level.”

St Neots Netball Club is staging an open session for adults on Tuesday (September 4). It takes place at Longsands Academy Sports Hall from 6pm to 8pm.

Training is held at that venue on Tuesdays during term time throughout the year.
