Ridgeons League Division One

Downham Town 4 Godmanchester Rovers 1

DESPITE getting off to a blistering start, Rovers went down to their third consecutive defeat after defensive errors gifted Downham the points.

Boss Karly Hurst was delighted with his team's start that saw them take the lead after just 45 seconds - but bemoaned the mistakes that cost Rovers.

Paul Bass was the man in the right place at the right time to give the visitors the lead with a low drive inside the first minute.

Rovers continued to play well in the opening part of the first half but once the home side grabbed an equaliser on 20 minutes Hurst's men lost their way.

Downham edged in front midway through the second half and completed the victory with two goals inside the final 10 minutes.

Hurst said: "They scored from their first attack and once they had the equaliser we never really recovered - every time we made a mistake they scored.

"We have not really settled on our best starting 11 yet and we haven't been able to field the same back line for various reasons."

Godmanchester travel to Hadleigh United for an FA Vase tie on Saturday.
