A TWELVE-year-old from Sawtry picked up a karting trophy on his first-ever visit to the circuit he was racing on.
Will van Es triumphed in the Novice Trophy event at the Hunts Kart Race Club's Kimbolton race track at the weekend.
Will came from the back row of the grid to take ninth position in his first heat and his performances on the day saw him commended with a trophy by the HKRC.
Will said: "I was pleased with my lap times and now I'm looking forward to getting more time on the track to build on what I have learned today."
The youngster will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Sawtry racer Elliot Burton, 16, who has picked up a number of top karting titles in his short career.
Elliot's father Chris said: "From what I have seen of Will, he has a lot of potential and is certainly racing at a standard above his level of experience."
