HUNTINGDONSHIRE Cricket lost an influential figure last week when Terry Bates passed away. Bates, from Bourne, Lincolnshire, worked for the National Cricket Association and the England and Wales Cricket Board after their merger in 1997. He became Chairman of the Cricket Foundation until he retired five years ago. Bates and Huntingdonshire County Cricket Association members were largely responsible for Huntingdonshire retaining its own county identity. He also recognised the huge amount of work being done through the 1990s with youth cricket development. Huntingdonshire Cricket Board Chairman David Holmes said: "He was not only a personal friend but the amount of work he did with this county was immeasurable.
