EATON Socon survived a tense finish to hold off Alconbury in the Hunts County Cricket League Division 1 on Saturday.
Eaton's openers Matt Rawling (67) and captain Terry Day (40) got the home side off to a great start in their 45 overs.
But a good spell of bowling from Alconbury's Richard Ewing (4-42), slowed the home side's total and the next three wickets fell cheaply.
Matt Childerley's 35 not out got the innings back on track and the hosts finished on 190-5, setting the visitors 191 to win.
Alconbury got off to a flying start, making 60 from their first 10 overs but the introduction of spin from Eaton swung the game in their favour.
Rawling (2-25) and Steve Peacock (3-47) decimated the Albonbury top order but some resistance from the middle order kept the game alive.

It was left to Phil Jarratt (4-19) to produce an excellent spell, wrap up the tail and win the game for Eaton with Alconbury 12 runs short and with 16 balls remaining.
