Australian teenager Dan Cummins rewrote the Waresley record books last Saturday.

Cummins cracked the biggest individual score in club history with a stunning 219no when inspiring the club’s 2nds to a first Hunts League victory of the summer.

It proved to be worth the wait thanks to a magnificent innings - which featured 26 fours and five sixes while lasting for just 131 balls - in a 224-run romp at Nassington.

Cummins eclipsed the previous Waresley record of 205 which belonged to Simon Blows since 2001. He also increased his previous best innings of 129no by 90 runs while providing the first double-century of the season in the Hunts League.

Cummins, 19, featured in a 300-run partnership with Rob Lowin, who recorded a first century for the club thanks to an unbeaten 127 off 88 balls, as they piled up a staggering 383-2.

Nassington then frustrated the Waresley 2nds bowlers for much of their reply, but the decision to introduce youngster Jamie Baker into the attack late on paid dividends.

He swooped for four wickets in just eight deliveries to sew up victory from the penultimate ball of the innings.

The second-highest Hunts League innings of 2018 also arrived last Saturday – against a local side.

Houghton & Wyton were made to suffer in a 292-run drubbing at Burghley Park in Division One.

Michael Hobbiss cracked 166 for the Stamford hosts as they piled up 319-5 before Houghton & Wyton were removed for a pitiful 27 in just 10 overs in reply.

There was more drama involving a Waresley team the following day as they were pipped in a Bedfordshire County League thriller.

Their Sunday side slipped to a four-wicket loss at the hands of Eversholt 2nds in Division Three after the visitors scrambled success off the final ball.

They needed two runs for victory from Lowin’s last delivery and attempted to run a quick single to earn a tie. Waresley, who had earlier posted 185-4, went for a run out to triumph themselves, but that backfired when an overthrow handed the game to their opponents.
