East Midlands Winter League

THE result of Saturday's practice match ahead of the next round of the league this weekend was very much down to the luck of the draw.

The next round will take place on the rivers Welland and Glen at Spalding and with both venues very clear the fish are tightly shoaled, meaning the draw was all-important.

There were some excellent roach weights from the town Welland, with the only place to be on the Glen right by the bridges.

Van Den Eynde's Wayne Swinscoe won the match with 33lb 4oz of roach from his peg below the tax office, with team-mate Chris Jenkinson in second and Kye Jerrom coming third from the same area.

Jon Hazelden was fourth from his peg near the town bridge to complete a good weekend - see below. All teams will approach Sunday with trepidation as the draw will be a major factor in success or failure on the day.

RESULT: 1 Wayne Swinscoe Van Den Eynde 33lb 4oz, 2 Chris Jenkinson Van Den Eynde 32lb 11oz, 3 Kye Jerrom Browning Stanjay 25lb 1oz, 4 Jon Hazelden Browning Stanjay 21lb 12oz, 5 Craig Shaw Peterborough 19lb 8oz.
