Rising St Ives Swimming Club star James Quinn captured two medals in his first outing of the new season.

The 12-year-old earned gold in the 200m breaststroke and silver in the 100m breaststroke when racing in the City of Derby Open Meet – at the Ponds Forge pool in Sheffield – last weekend.

Several other St Ives youngsters were in action considerably closer to home at the City of Peterborough Mini Gala.

The event is open to swimmers aged between eight and 11, and the St Ives contingent enjoyed plenty of success.

They finished third overall out of six competing clubs with Norbert Kadar, Anna Gallagher, Tessa Quayle, Charlie Rehus, Isabel Sharp, Anthony Prowse Garcia, Anna Desborough, Ben Pope, Grace Iddon, Connor Brookes, Harrison Greenwood, Keira Mavin, Ollie McNeill, Anna Freeman, Tiernan Stevenson, Millie Taylor, Rosanna Brooke, Isabella Marshall and Thomas Warren all producing lifetime bests.
