ST IVES Swimming Club punched above their weight to finish second at the second round of the Milton Keynes and District Junior League at the weekend.
The club picked up several individual wins, but also showed the all-round strength in the squad with a win in the showcase 8 x 25m cannon relay race. The winning team included CC Hime, Oscar Sterling, Jenny Hookham, Michael Lardner, Hazel Sterling, Oliver Fitt, Ellie Roberts and Peter Todd.
At the end of the meet, St Ives finished with 193pts, behind London club Hillingdon (218pts), and ahead of City of Oxford (175pts), Witney District (174pts), Luton A (163pts) and Aylesbury (97pts).
Individual wins in the age nine category were provided by Oscar Sterling in the 25m butterfly and freestyle, Brandon McDonald in the 25m breaststroke, and Lucas Dove in the 25m backstroke. At age 11, Fitt won the 50m backstroke, Daniel Yarney won the 50m freestyle and Hazel Sterling won the 50m butterfly. In the age 12 category, Peter Todd won the 50m breaststroke and Ellie Roberts won the 50m freestyle.
The final leg of the league will be held in September.
