A St Ives Swimming Club talent captured a staggering eight medals at the same event last Saturday.
Brilliant 11 year-old Bethan Endicott scooped six golds and two silvers when starring at the Beachfield Open Meet in Kent.
Her glorious performance in Gillingham featured successes in all four strokes as she claimed top spots in the 100m butterfly, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
She also broke three competition records and earned the ‘Top Girl’ award in the process.
Her display also drew high praise from club head coach Andy Hunter.
He said: “Many swimmers would be delighted to win one medal, but for Bethan to pick up eight in one event is incredible.
“It is a reward for all the hard work she puts in and highlights that she is a very talented young athlete for the future.”
Endicott was certainly not the only St Ives swimmer to impress last Saturday as plenty of her clubmates shone in Norwich.
A contingent of 20 club members captured 21 medals between them at the Long Course Mid-Summer Madness gala.
James Quinn was the star performer with three gold medals and three silvers.
He took victory in 50m and 100m breaststroke races and his 50m freestyle event, while adding second places in the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.
Cathy Thomson (100m freestyle) was the other local ace to strike gold and she also added a silver (50m freestyle) and bronze (50m backstroke) to her collection.
Other medal-winners were Fran Crocker, Georgia Spencer, Daniel Moyses, James Peacock, Evan Taylor, Brandon MacDonald, William Coleman and Elliot Dickson.
Those exploits helped St Ives to finish fourth out of 18 teams in the overall standings and head coach Hunter added: “It is terrific to see us win so many medals and produce so many lifetime bests in such a big event which provided many of our swimmers with their first taste of competitive racing in a 50m pool.”
The St Ives squad also featured Rosie Stevenson, Tiernan Stevenson, Grace Iddon, Anna Freeman, Janos Kadar, Joely Griggs, Millie Taylor, Harper Jackson, Mia Woods and Amy Coleman.
