A round-up of the weekend’s cricket action from around Huntingdonshire

GODMANCHESTER edged to a three-wicket victory at Wisbech Town in Division One thanks to an unbeaten 49 from Chethan William.

The visitors were replying to Wisbech’s 139 all out during which William also shone with the ball, snaring four home wickets.

Ramsey were narrow eight-run winners over Sawston as, having posted 139 all out, bowled their visitors out for 131, with Michael Kay (6-32) ripping through the batting line-up.

In Division Two, Waresley drew at home against Fordham, while Goddy seconds were narrowly beaten at home against Saffron Walden seconds by a single wicket.

John Hardy scored 65 in the hosts 142 all out but it wasn’t enough at their visitors sneaked over the line.

HUNTS COUNTY LEAGUE

EATON SOCON cruised to their first Division One win of the campaign - a seven-wicket win at home against Old Eastonians.

The hosts ripped through the visiting batting line-up, with debutant Asama Weerasekara (5-15) and Glen Daniels (4-6) creating carnage as Eastonians were skittled out for just 46.

They then knocked off the runs for the loss of three wickets in just 6.4 overs for an easy win.

Warboys won by five wickets at Waresley seconds with Sloane Kane (51) the pick of the visiting batsman.

In Division Two, Houghton & Wyton CC registered their first Division Two win with a nail-biting two-wicket victory over Sawtry.

Simon Wales and Pete Waughman took four wickets as Sawtry stumbled to 159 all out and, despite stuttering to 60-4 early in the their innings, the hosts got home thanks largely to a steadying 35 from Steve Jeffs.

Eaton Socon seconds picked up an 81-run victory over Blunham in Division Three.

After slumping to 69-5, a superb partnership between Simon Cooper (58) and David McCaig (50) got Eaton up to 204.

Blunham were always struggling and were eventually bowled out for 123.

Warboys seconds were five-wicket victors at home against Ickwell seconds, cruising to victory in 35 overs, losing just five wickets to pass Ickwell’s total of 147 all out.

Brampton went down to a three-wicket defeat at Newborough seconds in Hunts League Division Four.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl with the Brampton batsmen finding the bouncing and swinging conditions difficult.

Duncan McGregor (46) top scored in Brampton’s 155-7 and, with the ball, Peter Boardman took three wickets but wasn’t enough to prevent the hosts reaching their total in 39 overs.

In Division Five, Huntingdon thirds enjoyed a 69-run home win over Biggleswade seconds.

Batting first, the hosts raced to 132-1 of 22 overs thanks to Nathan Pond (61) and Liam Gaynor (39) however a mini-collapse saw them bowled out for 185.

However it proved to be enough as Biggleswade crashed to 116 all out, with an expertly performed diving catch from Geoff Price the highlight in the field for Huntingdon.

Warboys thirds were bowled out for just 96 as they went down by three wickets against Khalsa seconds.

They did, though, manage to take seven Khalsa wickets in reply but the visitors sneaked home.

CCA JUNIOR LEAGUE

IN Division 4a, Abbots Ripton won at Bluntisham seconds by 63 runs with Lee Smith hitting a half century.

In reply, the hosts collapsed to just 90 all out, chasing 154, having been 56-0 at one stage – Jerry Hyde ending with figures of 5-10.

RUTLAND LEAGUE

EATON Socon suffered a last-over reverse at Wisbech in Division Two.

Batting first Eaton made 211-4 with Joe Dawborn (56) top scoring, but Wisbech reached target with five balls to spare and three wickets in hand.

The seconds, meanwhile, completed a one-wicket victory over Hampton in Rutland Six.

Elsewhere in Division Six, Warboys seconds won by 88 runs at Newborough seconds.
