Potton United 3-5 Huntingdon Town

THREE down at the break and reduced to 10 men with 25 minutes to go, few would have given Town a chance of a point, but they roared back for their fifth win in a row.

Huntingdon’s visit to Potton on Saturday could not have got off to a worse start, as they went one down inside 60 seconds and trailed 3-0 after 38 minutes.

However, Al Lenihan’s charges have shown they are made of stern stuff this season and after a piece of Lenihan’s mind at half-time, the whole course of the game changed with five second-half goals.

Lenihan said: “The break couldn’t come soon enough for us. I wasn’t expecting to be three down at the break.

“They came in and got a bit of a roasting and I finished by telling them to at least make the score respectable. I’ve got to say I would have taken a point at that stage.”

Ten minutes into the second period Jordan Brockett got the visitors on the scoresheet and Stuart Eason cut the deficit further on the hour.

Town’s hopes of snatching a point were dealt a blow moments later though, when Anthony Thomas was harshly given his marching orders.

With nothing to lose, Town went to three at the back and continued to push forward. As Potton tired, Dan Drane grabbed a well-deserved equaliser to break their spirits.

“At that point Potton as good as threw the towel in,” said Lenihan. “We were all over them and deserved the win when Drane and Eason popped in their second goals of the game.”
