The talented St Ives time trial specialist travelled to Ranby near Worksop to compete in the Veteran Time Trial Association event and, averaging a speed of 29.4mph, he stopped the clock in third place at 20 minutes and 23 seconds, just missing out on Paul Davis Easter record by 12 seconds. Only two weeks ago Stevens covered 50 miles in one hour 48 minutes at the Yorkshire RC50 time trial at Dalton near Rotherham. This put his name in the St Ives Cycling Club history books and after that he scooped the 100-mile record three hours and 57 minutes in Norfolk. With the 10-mile and 25-mile records still within reach, Stevens was philosophical about missing the 10-mile record so narrowly. Its good to get the 50 and 100 but I know there could be more if the conditions were right, he said. With the time trial season drawing to a close, Stevens will now have to wait until next year to tackle any more records.
