St Neots Town’s star striker Stefan Moore moves on after club terminates his contract

STAR striker Stefan Moore has left St Neots Town with the Southern League Premier Division club insisting on every player, bar none, now training two days a week.

Chairman Mike Kearns told The Hunts Post: “We understand and appreciate that work comes first for players.

“Stefan has been a great ambassador for the club and has helped us in our project.

“He owns a big taxi business in Birmingham and it is the club’s policy now that players train with us two times a week – and that’s bar none.

“Because of his work commitments, Stefan can’t do that.”

Moore, the 29-year-old former Aston Villa forward, who joined the Saints in 2010, had scored eight goals already this season, to add to the 62 goals in the 75 games he had played previous to this campaign.

But the two parties met on Saturday evening, after the club’s game against Chesham United at The Cozy Stadium was postponed, and the remainder of Moore’s contract was terminated.

A statement on the club’s website said: “Stefan has made an outstanding contribution to the club and its progress over the last two seasons and we felt it only right to allow him to move on a free transfer.”

Talking to The Hunts Post, Kearns added: “We were not going to put him on transfer list – we are quite happy to let him find a new club closer to home.

“He deserves that after all he has done for us. There will certainly be plenty of clubs after him.

“From the day I signed Stefan Moore, he has been a role model for the club and clearly helped put us on the footballing map.

“I doubt if I will ever make a better signing than Stefan Moore.”

Kearns later Tweeted: “For us to achieve our ambitions we need players that are in a position to fully focus on the task ahead.”

Former St Neots manager Dennis Greene, who is currently without a managerial role after leaving Histon, the club he joined after leaving the Saints last summer, tweeted: “Good luck, Stef. Massive loss, best non-league striker and an inspiration to fellow teammates. Gobsmacked.”
