After a summer of changes, following promotion to the Premier Division of the Southern League, third-placed St Neots Town are exceeding expecations, says Mike Kearns in this exclusive message to the club’s fans, written for The Hunts Post...

HERE we are at the end of October sitting joint second in the Southern League Premier. Who would have thought that just two years ago?

The season has been very satisfying for everyone involved with the club so far and has far exceeded our expectations.

The start of the season came at least two weeks too early as disruption on the management side of the club called for us to appoint a new first-team head coach, which virtually put a hold on signing any new players. So, we lost our first two games before we were able to settle the new players and management in.

However, a fantastic win away to Cambridge City really put us at the forefront as far as local football is concerned. Our new midfield of Jay Davies and Ollie Thorne more than compensated for the loss of Adrian Sear and Junior Konadu.

Those games were followed by some indifferent results, mainly to the team being a little disjointed because of the return of Davies to his contracted club Woking.

A few adverse results followed but we were heavily into negotiations to sign Jay from Woking by then.

This took time but we have now secured Jay’s services on a permanent basis and this has knitted the team together.

Our last two games have given us two very impressive wins against Stourbridge away and St Albans City at home – in front of our highest attendance so far this season of 518.

I ask to the footballing community of St Neots to come along and watch this wonderful team playing some great football. Only with your support can we achieve our ambition and put our town very firmly on the football map.

I think we are just about there now as far as the playing staff is concerned and I’m sure we will get better as the season progresses.

We are certainly not getting over confident but have not so far seen any opposition we should be worried about.

Time will tell and our objectives for the season are still the same as when the season started – first to avoid relegation, second to finish mid -table, third to get into a play-off position, and lastly to win this league.

We will take each objective as it comes and if we are fortunate enough to be in the top eight at Christmas then we will be very pleased indeed.

Of course, our club is not all about the first team but all of our young teams are progressing and our Academy set-up is so very exciting.

Iain and his coaching team have done a wonderful job this season with the young players and already we have added two of those to the first-team squad.

St Neots Town – joint second in the Southern League Premier Division.

Is this a dream or is it for real?

You bet. It’s real.

Mike Kearns, St Neots Town Football Club.
