ST IVES grabbed a last gasp-goal to record their third victory over St Neots this season.

St Neots will argue that they deserved a point from the game, but this fiercely contested Easter Monday derby was won in the last minute of the match.

In front of close to 550 spectators, Carl Foreman nipped round the back of a static St Neots' defence to give the visitors a 1-0 win.

St Ives co-manager, Jez Hall, was more than pleased: "The defence was magnificent and although I began to get a 0-0 feeling about the result, we certainly came on strong in the last 25 minutes. They went deeper and I knew then that if we could find room we might nick it."

There were few chances in a first half which saw defenders snapping into tackles.

When the ball hit the back of the net, Tony Scully's goal for St Neots did not count as he was correctly adjudged to be off-side.

St Ives two best chances fell to Junior McDougald and Liam Kennett, but in truth there was little between the teams as the 0-0 half time score suggested.

Luke Knight and Chris Johnson had half chances for St Neots in the second half.

But it was the referee, not the goalkeepers, who was kept busy booking four in what was a typical local derby between two fired up teams.

St Ives' Will Fordham had a shot well saved by Lee Crockett while at the other end Rob Mackney needed to be alert to pull off a good stop from a Declan Rogers' strike.

However, Foreman was left to take the plaudits with his winning - and well-taken - poachers' goal a minute from time.

St Ives won a corner after Crocket had pulled off a good save, the home defenders went absent and Foreman was allowed his moment of glory.

The result was St Neots' fourth home defeat on the trot, but Lomas is looked forward: "We have three league games to get our heads round what we need to achieve next season. I can look at players, alter the way we shape up and that has already started to happen.
