ST Neots Town shot back to the top of the Southern League Division Central table on Tuesday night when they beat Rugby Town 4-2 and Slough Town lost 2-0 to North Greenford United.

Saints striker Stefan Moore scored a hat trick in the win to go to top of the division’s goalscorer chart, too - while Dan Jacob got the other goal in Leicestershire to complete the rout.

Meanwhile, Slough - who went top of the table when they beat St Neots at The Hunts Post Community Stadium on Saturday - were a shadow of the of the team that took the top spot from the Saints with that win when they lost at home to their visitors from north west London.

In fact, goalkeeper James Warrington - who had been one of the team’s star performers on Saturday - was so furious that he Tweeted: “That was a disgrace. Not good enough.”

Slough were only top of the table for four days with the Saints reclaiming pole position on goal difference - but Dennis Greene’s side still have a game in hand and there are likely to more many more twists and turns in this two-horse race before the end of the season in late April.

The St Neots manager told The Hunts Post: “Slough losing was a bonus - it was a tough game at Rugby and to discover they had lost afterwards was something extra.

“We just have to keep on winning our games and if Slough drop points, they drop points.”

Of the former Aston Villa striker Moore, who has now scored 28 league and cup goals this season, Greene said: “He’s a handful when he wants to be.

“He’s class - and if he worked a bit harder he would be able to do that all that time.”

This Saturday, St Neots are away at Chertsey Town while Slough are at home to Beaconsfield SYCOB. St Neots have nine games left while Slough have just eight.
