Josh Davies and Fergus Mitchell gave St Neots Rowing a taste of national glory when they contested the 2014 British Senior Championships in tough conditions at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham, last weekend.

Hot on the heels of their Pairs Head triumph in London the previous weekend, the two 17-year-olds contested the under-19 men’s double scull, which pitted them against some of the country’s top crews including members of the Great Britain national squad.

In tough headwind conditions and despite the fact they were generally up against rowers a year older, Davies and Mitchell produced a solid performance to achieve a highly respectable third place.

The racing format meant all the pairs were placed in the same draw, albeit in different categories. As a consequence they were unable to race the crews who finished above them despite bettering their respective final times.
