AN ARSENAL fan from Hail Weston had a day to remember when he was guest of honour at the Emirates Stadium.
Ross Hovey went pitchside to presentGunners defender Thomas Vermaelen with the Disabled Supporters’ Player of the Season 2009/10 award.
The 31 year-old represented the club’s registered disabled supporters who voted for the Belgian international, and handed over the trophy before Arsenal’s Premier League defeat to West Bromwich Albion.
Hovey said: “It was a massive surprise, honour and complete shock to be chosen to present Thomas Vermaelen with the Disabled Supporters’ Player of the Season award.
“I was nervous driving to the ground, but even more so when we made our way to the players’ entrance.
“When Arsene Wenger randomly appeared out of a nearby lift my carer Barry Patton and I realised how big the next few minutes were going to be.
“It was surreal waiting in the tunnel area and then walking out when the WBA players were walking in.
“It was great meeting and presenting Thomas. It will be a day I remember forever. I am going to frame the match day programme and photo.”
The presentation is part of the club’s Arsenal for Everyone initiative.
