ST NEOTS III hosted Shelford on Saturday and were soon pinned back by the visitors. They soon took the lead through a well worked move and St Neots then made a mistake for the visitors to go further ahead.

The hosts then drove forward and scrum half Johnny Mo picked up the ball from the base of a ruck and passed to Simon Plumbly in the centre who sent the ball back to Mo for the hosts first try, but with no recognised kicker the conversion was missed. Head prop Joel Atkins plucked the ball from the air to start a move that was completed by winger Dave King scoring their second try, but Saints were still behind at the interval.

Saints were determined to win after the restart and pressed forward, but a silly mistake allowed the visitors to break through and score. As the hosts pressed they began to dominate the play and had a ball called back when metres from the try line, thought they failed to turn this possession into points.

Shelford took advantage of their inability to score and again got a break away try to go 21 points clear with 15 minutes remaining. Jim Cooper soon drove over the line in a frantic final 10 minutes after a good move as St Neots fought back and Pete Arnold then drove over the line after a try to bring them within range. The hosts kept pushing back and Arnold scored again, but St Neots failed to add any more and lost the game.
