Gary King is taking nothing for granted when St Neots travel to lowly Banbury United on Saturday.
The Saints are in fine league form following their 4-0 derby win at home to Histon last Tuesday, thanks to two goals from Drew Roberts, Ryan Frater and Jay Davies following the drama of the eight-men finish in the 2-2 draw against Biggleswade.
That result was followed up by Saturday’s tense 1-1 draw against visitors Dereham in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup, with Nathan Frater equalising on 53 minutes.
King was delighted with the Histon result. “It was a fantastic reaction. We possibly played our best football of the season. It was very positive and a glimpse of what we are capable of if we perform to our potential.”
The joint-manager felt his side missed a trick on Saturday with ample time to capitalise on Frater’s strike, which had completed a fine team goal after several passes.
“We did not penetrate as much as we would have liked. We need to keep patient and stay focused.”
Banbury have changed managers recently after losing all their league games bar one, but they are through to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.
“Banbury will win a game in the league somewhere along the line. We just have to make sure their improvement does not start on Saturday,” said King.
Last night, St Neots lost their FA Cup replay on penalties to Dereham.
