Adelaide Walkling has met England ladies’ cricket captain Charlotte Edwards a couple of times.

And now women’s cricket has turned pro and the players receive a living wage, the 14-year-old from Eaton Socon more than ever wants to make the sport her career.

She has been chosen to take part in England Women’s Development Programme (Under 15s) Super 3s Summer Competition.

Along with Alicia Presland, from Buckden, Walkling will stay at Wellington College, Berkshire, for a week from July 28.

They are among 39 girls chosen from all over the country.

At the end of that week an under-15 squad will be chosen to play other countries.

All-rounder Walkling plays for Hunts ladies and under-15s as well as for Bentley CC in Essex.

Indeed, her top score of the season (58) came for Bentley in an under-16s competition, while she claimed her first hat-trick (two bowled, one caught) in a four-wicket haul for Hunts under-15s against Lincolnshire.

“I’m very excited to be chosen for such an honour,” she said this week.

“Now I want to be one of those selected and further what I hope will be a career in cricket.”

Her granddad John Wright will be pleased as punch.

The Eaton Socon president introduced Walkling to cricket around four years ago.

She played in a mixed team, found out how enjoyable it was, and went from there. She has been part of the Emerging Players Programme for under-19s in Essex, and in February will play in the Arch Trophy in Dubai.
