WHEN St Ives Town beat Stewarts & Lloyds Corby last Saturday the United Counties League Premier Division team completed an incredible whole calendar year of straight home wins.

The Saints, who drew 1-1 at Newport Pagnell Town on Tuesday night to maintain their unbeaten start to their league season, have not lost or drawn a game at Westwood Road since September 17 lasy year when they were beaten by Northampton Spencer.

Saturday’s 4-0 win over S&L was their last home game before September 17 this year.

“That’s 21 home wins on the trot,” said joint manager Jez Hall, who admitted it was only two weeks ago that the club realised how far their home winning run stretched back. “It’s funny: there haven’t even been any draws during that time,” he told The Hunts Post.

“That’s one of the best stats of mine and Warren Everdell’s 11 years as managers of the club.

“We’ve won a few cups etc but to go a whole year winning every single home game is incredible.”

The saints have started this season brightly – both home and away. Last night (Tuesday), they were

The prolific Conor Washington scored St Ives equaliser at Newport Pagnell in a game Hall believed would alsways be a tough one - and it was also Washington who opened the scoring against S&L when the 20-year-old broke free on 18 minutes and lobbed the advancing goalkeeper.

Washington and Karl Gibbs were both denied by David Allan after that but Dan Newman beat the S&L goalkeeper again for 2-0 when he smashed home a cleared Jon Stead corner on 32 minutes.

Just before half-time Will Fordham headed a Jamie Alsop free kick just wide.

Gibbs joined his strike partner on the score sheet five minutes into the second half with a delightful chip from the edge of the penalty area.

Stead finished off the scoring when he beat Allan from distance with another classy strike.

The previous Tuesday evening, Washington had twisted an ankle in the pre-match warm-up at Tattershall Road so he missed the Saints’ 4-2 win at Boston Town.

Fordham and Gibbs were the first two goalscorers there, while an own goal from Oli Stead made it 3-0 before half time.

Boston pulled it back to 3-2 in the second period before substitute Scott Feidling scored his first goal of the campaign, which he started at Godmanchester Rovers, made the result safe.
