TOP OF THE CLASS: Students at the Chao Phraya Muay Thai academy in St Ives turned in a flawless performance to pass the first of their bi-annual gradings. Every one of the 19 students passed the assessment, designed by founder and chief instructor Kru Shaun Boland. Boland said: "The idea for the gradings is to set a benchmark to which the student can aspire. They also help the student to progress to instructor level." Students had to perform physical and technical techniques, pass a theory section involving counting in Thai and basic vocabulary, then recite a history and culture of Thailand. Boland added: "We had a very high pass mark this year, and this was down to the students practising in their groups for their relevant grades every week for the past two months. I am very pleased with their commitment and results." INFORMATION: To find out more about Thai Boxing (Muay Thai), contact Kru Shaun Boland on 01480 384270.
