Not even a second century of the summer from captain Jonny Carpenter was enough to prevent a 34-run reverse at the hands of Foxton in the big Whiting & Partners Division One clash.

The visiting side piled up 272-7 from their 50 overs at Peppercorn lane with Eaton Socon being dismissed for 238 in reply.

Almost half of those runs came from Carpenter, who contributed 113 from 135 balls, but lacked any notable support with only fellow opener Matt Pateman (30), number three Ollie Jeffferies (26) and Michael Pickard (23) making it into double figures.

Eaton Socon dropped to fourth place in the standings and trail leaders Saffron Walden – who won at lowly locals Waresley yesterday – by 36 points. However, Carpenter’s men do possess two games in hand.
