St Ives Rowing Club sent nine members to compete at the Bedford Small Boats Head of the River race and with competitors doubling up in singles and doubles there were a total of 13 boats competing from the club.
Gary Gilbey won his masters C single race by four seconds, while Paul Ashmore and Rebecca Williams won their mixed C double race by the massive margin of 38 seconds.
The event was attended by many of the medallists from last year’s National Masters and juniors from the British squad so the St Ives rowers’ placings were a good indication of how they might expect to do in national competition this season.
The National Masters at Nottingham takes place in five weeks time and a spokesman for St Ives said: “The masters competitors from the club are gearing up for some solid training over the next four weeks.”
