Mike Jenner's neat finish and Simon Shorter's penalty stroke were enough to earn a 2-1 success over Colchester.

Shorter was a key figure in the middle of the park while Brad Young made an eye-catching debut at left-back.

St Ives remain bottom of the table, but are now level with fellow strugglers Crostyx and have moved to within two points of safety.

Rory Mooney, Matt Pearson, Alex Grange and Brad Forsdick fired the seconds to a 4-1 success over Bourne Deeping seconds in Division Three North West and the thirds made it a hat-trick by seeing off opposition from the same club.

Simon Rees, Ian Basser and captain Tim Jones did the scoring honours as Bourne Deeping thirds were seen off 3-1 in Division Four North West. A consolation goal from a penalty corner denied St Ives keeper Dan Orme a deserved clean sheet.

But the winning streak couldn't continue as St Ives fourths were beaten 4-0 by Leadenham in Division Five North West and the fifths went down to a narrow 3-2 loss to Cambs Nomads thirds in Division Six North West (South).

A Helen Clarke penalty flick was all St Ives firsts had to show for a 3-1 loss away to Wisbech in Division One North of the East Women's League.

Clarke converted after a Carly McDonald effort had been kept out by the foot of a home defender stationed on the goal-line.

The seconds fared better as Helen Seabourne struck four times in a 5-0 triumph over Cambridge City fourths. Hannah Gee tapped in the other goal in the Division Three North West (South) fixture.

The thirds were beaten 6-1 by Huntingdon at the same level with Jess Barrett-Drylie hitting a high-class goal.
