St Ives Men’s 1sts suffered an agonising relegation despite saving their best until last.

A 4-3 success against promoted side Shefford & Sandy on the final day of the East Men’s League season was not enough to earn an escape from the drop.

Cameron Seton struck twice with Peter Liddle and Michael Jenner also finding the net as the St Ives side’s stay in Division Two North came to an end by a single point.

It completed a miserable campaign for the male section with three teams going down.

The 2nds finished bottom of Division Three North-West although they ended their campaign with a creditable 2-2 draw against Cambridge City Vets. Sam Helme hit both of the goals.

And the 3rds also suffered the drop in Division Four North-West. Charlie Budgett was on target as the curtain came down on their season with a 2-1 defeat at the hands on Cambridge South 2nds.

St Ives 5ths finished bottom of Division Six North-West South. They signed off with a 2-2 draw against City of Peterborough 9ths courtesy of Finlay Hudson and Chris Thornhill.

The 4ths came home in the comfort of mid-table in Division Five North-West and completed the campaign with a 2-2 draw as Jon Clarke and Tom Andrews struck against champions St Neots 2nds.

It was a result which denied their opponents a perfect season after they had won all 21 of their previous games. They had to rely on a late Chris Butterworth equaliser to preserve their unbeaten record after Danny Rowland-Cox had hit their earlier goal.

St Neots 1sts brought the curtain down on their Division Three North-West season in triumphant style. Dan Sutton hit a hat-trick to lead an 8-2 rout of Louth 1sts.

A brace of Garth Mooney goals book-ended a fine display which also featured an Owen Edwards rocket, a smart Phil Johns finish from a difficult angle and a David Humphrey effort following a penalty corner.

St Ives Ladies 1sts completed their East Women’s League season in unbeaten style.

The Division Two North-West champions drew 2-2 with Wisbech Town 2nds in their final fixture. Captain Helen Clarke struck along with an own goal.
