St Ives Ladies 1sts clinched the Division Two North-West title amid an avalanche of goals.

Zoe Helme hit her first senior hat-trick as the East Women’s League honours were sealed with an 8-0 triumph against King’s Lynn side Pelicans last Saturday.

Holly Stride and captain Helen Clarke both struck twice for a team who were already assured of promotion. Vicky Leighton completed the scoring.

Proud skipper Clarke said: “It is great to have wrapped up the title on a day when we played like champions.

“Performances and results like this prove we deserve promotion back to Division One North.

“If we can play to this level, we will give the teams in the league above a difficult game. Bring on September!”

St Ives Ladies 2nds’ promotion hopes were hit as they were held to a 1-1 draw at City of Peterborough 3rds while the Ladies 3rds received a 5-0 walkover against bottom side Ely City 3rds in Division Four North-West.

St Ives Men’s 1sts let a two-goal lead slip, but still collected a valuable point in their battle to avoid relegation.

Mike Jenner’s first-half double put them on top at Division Two North title-chasers Norwich City 2nds, but the hosts clawed their way level in the second half of an East Men’s League clash which ended 2-2.

A Nathan Jones goal was not enough to spare the Men’s 2nds from a defeat which confirmed their relegation from Division Three North-West. The bottom side were beaten 2-1 by fellow strugglers Louth.

The Men’s 3rds were already down in Division Four North-West, but they enjoyed one of the highlights of a difficult season last Saturday.

Mike Boyle and Ian Basser both struck twice as they sank Wisbech Town 3rds 6-3 to record their second victory of the campaign. Will Jones and Simon Donald also found the net.

St Ives Men’s 4ths slammed their Spalding equivalents 5-0 in Division Five North-West while Sam Reynolds’ goal earned the 5ths a 1-1 draw against St Neots 4ths in Division Six North-West (South).

The 4ths were the only St Neots Men’s outfit to be beaten last weekend.

Departing goalkeeper Rob Marris produced a magnificent man-of-the-match display as the 1sts beat Horncastle 1sts 5-1 in Division Three North-West.

Morris marked farewell appearance for the club, before moving to the Lake District, with a series of fine saves.

Dan Sutton and Joe Derby both struck twice for the St Neots side with Garth Mooney grabbing the other goal.

The 2nds, already-crowned champions in Division Five North-West, thumped Wisbech Town 4ths 15-1. They need only two more victories to complete a perfect campaign.

The 5ths beat City of Peterborough 9ths 3-0 in Division Six North-West (South).
