St Ives junior captain’s hole-in-one repeats on him
ST Ives Golf Club junior captain Josh Stimson was left speechless in October after sinking his second hole-in-one on the same hole with the same club in a little over two months.
Stimson, who is 17, shot his first ever hole-in-one on the 179-yard third hole of his home course with a six iron on August 6.
“It was in a competition called the Goggs Cup,” said Stimson. “It’s a men’s cup competition and I came fifth out of about 80 so I was quite happy with that.
“I had never even seen a hole-in-one before that, let alone got one.
“Then, on October 22, I was playing in a match for St Ives against Cambridge University and when we got to the third hole my opponent said it looked like a hard hole.
“I told him I had got a hole-in-one there a couple of months before and he said he’d love to see a hole-in-one as he had never seen one.
“Then I stepped up and did it again. We were both speechless.

“It was the same hole and the same club.”
Stimson began playing at St Ives when his father Barry, who has been a member of the club for five years, took him along for a game.
He is currently taking his A-Levels but would like to pursue his interest in the sport after his exams. “I would like to begin taking PGA coaching courses next year,” he said.
“My short-term ambition is to be an assistant professional.”
