ST IVES hosted Peterborough Lions at the Chickenshack on Saturday in what was expected to be a tense game.

The hosts started with some strong and effective crash balls and Trev Newman opened the scoring for Ives. James Yeomans soon scored as he crossed the line after a quick tap to put the home side further ahead.

Giles Corbutt got his leg caught in a ruck after the restart and was rushed to hospital with a suspected broken leg. Lions then started to open up and play and put Ives under pressure by winning penalties, one of which was eventually scored to make the half time score line 10-3.

St Ives controlled the game after the interval, driving the visitors back as Newman scored his second try by bursting down the line. Steve Burke then broke from the back of the scrum and powered forward to pass to Ross Thompson to score and make it 20-3.
