MANAGER Jez Hall has threatened to make changes to the St Ives team after branding Saturday's defeat to Deeping "the worst team performance for years".

Saints left a crowd of nearly 200 disappointed as they slumped to their fourth home defeat of the season with a toothless display against the mid-tablers.

Hall said: "We are better than a mid-table side and the players know that. If we can't start performing with the players we have, then we will need to bring in fresh faces.

"We had a hatful of chances and couldn't bury even one of them. They created four, scored three and were the better team."

Ives created good chances from the start and it seemed to be a matter of time before the visitors' defence would be breached. An element of good fortune, useful defending and weak finishing kept the game locked at 0-0.

With the visitors' confidence growing, they began to come back into the game and taught the home side a lesson in finishing with a breakaway goal on 40 minutes. To twist the knife, they added a second deep in first-half injury time.

Hall's team-talk at the break shook Ives into action as they looked to get on terms. Scott Fielding burst through and was felled but nothing came of the chance, and Saints struggled to make their quality count.

The game was effectively over on 55 minutes when Deeping's Mark Poole outstripped the defence to add number three.
