ST IVES Cycling Club will hold the penultimate round of the Eastern Region Mountain Bike League at Hinchingbrooke Country Park on Sunday.

The league has been established by British Cycling as an attempt to build an off-road cycling legacy after the London 2012 Olympics, and gives riders of all abilities the opportunity to compete on a range of exciting new venues across Cambridgeshire and Essex.

"The Mountain Bike League is an exciting development for the region, and should appeal to all those that have been inspired by our Olympic successes," said Nigel Hampton of British Cycling.

Hinchingbrooke's grounds will present a challenge to competitors, mixing grassy open areas with woodland sections and technical descents. There are other activities available for spectators, including a children's play area, zip wire, caf, lake and bird sanctuary.

Activities for children under 12 include a fun race arranged by British Cycling's qualified coaches, with mountain bikes and helmets available to those who do not have their own. The race will be run alongside the main event on a separate course and starts at 11am. Entry is 1.

The main races are split into different categories with the action starting at 10am for youth riders aged 12-16, 11.15am for women and juniors aged 17-18 and 12.45pm for seniors and veterans. Advance online entry costs 15 for seniors, 10 for juniors and 8 for youths.
