ST Ives rugby club were surprised to find themselves playing in one of France’s biggest stadiums at the weekend when they visited the country for a friendly game against Piranhas de Stade.
It turned out the lower league side share French giants Toulouse’s Toulousain Stadium – and the Bulls excelled against their opponents, who were bolstered by a few of the St Ives’ own squad, beating them on home soil.
St Ives took 24 players on the trip so a few of their players opted to turn out for the home side and Josh Dear even scored a try against his teammates.
Club chairman Mark Smy – who was the St Ives captain – said: “Obviously I was delighted by the win but just as gratifying was the spirit and hospitality with which we were received by the rugby enthusiasts of Toulouse.
“We look forward to the Piranhas coming to the UK in the future.” And playing at The Chicken Shack...
