Shona Whitwell won her fourth consecutive English schoolgirl title when she beat Bria Fielding of Blackburn Police ABC at Brentwood in Essex at the weekend.
The 15-year-old St Ives Boxing Club fighter is hoping to earn a place on the British team for the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil – but her coach and father wasn’t overly impressed with her performance in the majority points decision win.
“A good third round from Shona saved her from losing her title but she still let Fielding hold and maul too much,” said Steve Whitwell.
“We are now lining up a big year starting with the Golden Girl Championships in Sweden next month.”
Shona’s 13-year-old sister Harli was also in action winning her first competitive fight for a year.
