ST IVES lost to Ampthill despite a well contested game in which they enjoyed decent possession. It was a tight game with the deadlock broken after 27 minutes, as Ives pushed forward to score but a lose ball was gathered by the visitors who quickly ran in a try on the counter.
The hosts defended well as Ampthill started to string attacks together and saw any chances they made wasted by poor mistakes as the visitors went further ahead just before the interval.
Ives remained under pressure as the second half started but aggression in defence kept them within touching distance as they pushed forward. The defence cracked after 54 minutes though as the visitors powered through for a converted try.
Despite the game being effectively over, St Ives kept pressing as they tried to make amends for their inevitable defeat. They were disappointed as the final play of the game saw the visitors score yet another try.
