WITH this weekend’s snow came an extra dimension to the already-challenging ‘Quadmire’ at Wadenhoe on Sunday morning.

But for young St Neots NiceTri Triathlon Club member Tom Stead it was business as usual as he powered his way through a race that involved a run, kayak, bike ride … oh, and then another run.

This was the final of four in a series of quadric races and 15-year-old Stead - the youngest member of his triathlon team - made it look easy, beating fellow NiceTri member Keith Read to first place.

Stead finished just ahead of Steve Giles in the run before just managing to stay ahead of Read in the kayak section of the race.

He then increased his lead on the snowy ups and downs of the six-mile off road cycle course and, by the start of the final run, his win was pretty much secure and he finished in a brilliant time of 1.32.45.

There was also a duathlon on Sunday and that was won by Rob Hammond in a time of 1.18.42. The duathlon series's overall winner was Giles.

The next quadrathlon event will be held on August 5, 2012 at Boxend.

"Last year's Boxend quad was the first summer one I'd done" said Stead.

"Although I mainly do sprint triathlons, this year I hope to take part in more quads, one of which will be the world championships in the Czech Republic in August."
