FRIENDS and work colleagues Jeremy Ireson and Simon Rathbone spent Tuesday playing 72 holes of golf – at four different courses within Huntingdonshire.

The pair, who work at The Exhibition pub in Godmanchester, are members of Brampton Park Golf Club – but started their charity day early, at 4am to be precise, from the first hole at the Abbotsley course in St Neots.

Given permission to use buggies at Abbotsley and the second course, Cromwell Park, the intrepid golfers were then off to Wyboston Lakes, before finishing their marathon at Brampton.

“The Exhibition raises a lot of money for MacMillan Cancer Support – so we thought it would be a good idea to help raise some more,” said chef Ireson.

“I know there are 72-hole golf marathons at golf courses now and again – but we thought we would take it one stage further and do 18 holes each on four different courses.”

The pair were helped out on the day by regular customer Kath Spowart, who drove them from course to course and supplied them with food and drinks.

The pair were hoping to raise more than £1,000.
