ST NEOTS returned to winning ways after back to back defeats with victory at Westwood on Saturday.

An early penalty saw Westwood score first but a typical, quick flowing move set up centre Martyn Allen to score in the corner for Saints - the first of four tries in the opening period – one of which was converted.

Wing Dan Miller popped up for try number two soon after and, with confidence growing, fly-half Adam Porter scored an individual effort after faking passes to both centres, spotting the resulting gap and racing through from halfway to score under the posts.

Adam Peel scored a similar try, taking a scissors pass from Porter and, with the home defence wrong footed, he also ran in a try from halfway.

Westwood scored a second penalty with the last kick of the half, but Neots led 22-6 at the break.

If the first half was a display of clinical finishing by the backs, the second half was a show of control by the forwards, with three more tries scored, two converted.

Allen scored try number five for the visitors, before Tom Worboys saw an opening and peeled off the back of the pack to power through the remaining defenders to score under the posts.

Adam Peel scored his second – and Neots’ final try of the day – in a game that provided perfect preparation for this weekend’s league trip to local rivals St Ives.

> Neots’ seconds set up a Greene King Cup semi-final tie at Cottenham Renegades in early April after defeating Harlow fourths 39-12 on Saturday.

Ryan Baxter and Carl Lofty – who also kicked a conversion – scored tries in a tight first half, before Neots cut loose after the interval.

They added a further five tries, with Sam Wooldridge, Baxter with three more and Ross Donald also on the scoresheet.
