Man-of-the-moment Hayden Bream led Sawtry to A1 derby success last Saturday with another starring performance.

Bream, who thumped a century in his previous appearance, did the damage with the ball on this occasion. The sharp seamer produced career-best figures of 7-21 from 10 overs in a Hunts League Division Two triumph at local rivals Alconbury.

Sawtry prevailed by 71 runs after skittling their hosts for just 78 with Shaun Hubbard taking the final three wickets after Bream had bulldozed the vast majority of the order.

Sawtry earlier posted 149-6 with Dave Atkinson hitting an unbeaten 58.

Matt Lavender was another bowler to enjoy a splendid Saturday. The Warboys captain swooped for 6-23 as his side continued their Division Three promotion push with a 60-run victory against Orton Park 2nds.

Lavender also impressed with the bat thanks to an unbeaten 45 as Warboys reached 207-9 before restricting their visitors to 147-9 in reply.

There was a milestone moment for young Godmanchester Town 2nds talent Ben Lemmon last Saturday.

The 13 year-old hit a first half-century in senior cricket courtesy of an unbeaten 57 as his side were beaten at Blunham 2nds. The Town side made it to 183-6 when chasing their hosts’ offering of 222-7.

Upwood also came up short on their travels at that level despite the big hitting of Zac Stevens. He thumped 70 off 66 balls – an innings featuring 14 fours – as the local side went down by 27 runs at high-flying Biggleswade.

Rob Landemore also fell one run short of a half-century as Upwood were restricted to 176-9 in pursuit of 203-8.

But Upwood fared better the following day when they dished out a first defeat of the season to Division Five leaders Sheikh XI.

Ryan Drage cracked an unbeaten 98 as they beat the table-topping Peterborough side by eight wickets. Mitch Newman earlier took 4-43 as Sheikh XI were dismissed for 144.

* There was another fine Sawtry bowling performance last Sunday.

Young medium pacer Sam Brown claimed 6-18 but ended up on the losing side as Sawtry were beaten by 27 runs by Benefield in Division Four West of the Rutland League.
