St Neots Town striker Shane Tolley scored both of the goals in their 2-0 win over promotion chasing Bideford in the Premier Division of the Southern League this afternoon.

There were chances for Lewis Hilliard and Jay Davies early on but it was the visitors who made much of the running in the first half. That was until Tolley, who has been prolific since his return to the club, scored just before half time, the striker pouncing when a Hilliard free-kick hit the Bideford crossbar and bounced back into his path.

Tolley made it 2-0 with his head after the Bideford goalkeeper had tipped another goal bound strike from the player wide.

Tom Meecham scored two of St Ives Town’s in their 3-2 win at home to Egham Town in Division One Central.

The young striker, who signed from Over Sports in the summer, has stepped up to the plate since the club lost loanee striker Matty Waters to Histon and has now scored two goals twice.

Meecham gave St Ives a 14th minute lead and on 23 minutes the captain Lee Ellison struck with a left footed shot for 2-0. Jamie Norris, the Egham goalkeeper, saved an Avelino Vieira penalty just before half time and Reis Stanislaus struck for Egham to make it 2-1 in the 47th minute – but Meecham grabbed his second with 18 minutes remaining.

Things got tight for the mid-table Saints when Stanislaus scored his second from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining.

In the Premier Division of the Eastern Counties League, Godmanchester Rovers – without their captain Chris Hyem, who was working – were 2-0 up by half-time at Brantham Athletic through Carl Foreman and Niks Savalneiks. And that’s the way it stayed.

In the race for that all-important second automatic promotion place in Division One of the United Counties League, Eynesbury Rovers won 2-1 at home to Peterborough Sports.

Huntingdon Town were without a game in the Premier Division of that league after losing at Cogenhoe United on Tuesday evening. However, they dropped to fourth because Cogenhoe won again and went above them. However, Huntingdon have games in hand and should still finish second behind runaway champions Spalding United.

In the day’s big Huntingdonshire derby, in the Senior A division of the Cambs League, Josh Turner scored both goals as Fenstanton beat Great Paxton 2-0 away from home.
