Warboys climbed off the bottom of Tucker Gardner Division One courtesy of a first win of the season on Saturday.

They emerged victorious from a low-scoring contest at fellow strugglers March to jump four places up the top-flight standings.

Chris Whitfield claimed four victims and Sam Latchford took three wickets as Warboys dismissed their hosts for 150 – 13 runs short of their own posting of 163-9. Overseas player Simon Walshe top-scored with 25.

Victory will have provided a welcome boost for Warboys ahead of their Bank Holiday Monday meeting with table-topping Ramsey.

The reigning champions made short work of new basement boys Saffron Walden yesterday when breezing to an eight-wicket success.

Veteran seam bowler David Carlaw claimed a five-wicket haul for the second successive Saturday as the hosts were skittled for just 82.

And Michael Cafferkey contributed well with ball and bat, following up three wickets with an unbeaten 47, as Ramsey stretched their winning run to four matches.

Unbeaten Godmanchester remain in hot pursuit after a dramatic three-wicket success over Foxton at The Parks.

Byron Ovenstone starred with a century to steer his team to glory with a ball to spare.

Ovenstone remained unbeaten on 102 while a contribution of 63 from Paul Swannell also proved particularly useful as Godmanchester chased down Foxton’s tally of 238-6.

Matt Pateman’s side have now dropped a place in the league table in the wake of a victory on successive Saturdays due to the complexities of league rules which offer richer rewards for teams winning when batting first. They now sit third but are just three points behind leaders Ramsey.

Wisbech separate the two local teams in second spot after they thumped Waresley by 149 runs. Only three batsmen made it into double-figures as Waresley were skittled for 98.

Eaton Socon were another team to see their league position suffer despite a resounding victory as they were knocked off top spot in Division Two despite a 10-wicket drubbing of Khalsa.

Iain Wheel bagged five wickets as the visitors were dismissed for just 81 before Jonny Carpenter and Tom Banks wrapped up victory with a minimum of fuss.

Blunham are the new leaders at that level but Socon head a gaggle of four local teams giving chase.

Huntingdon & District were also emphatic winners as they bashed Newborough by eight wickets. Captain Freddie Khan took three wickets and Khaqan Arsal hit 44.

Kimbolton had to be content with a draw against Sawston & Babraham.

Matt Aldwinkle led the way with 71 while James Biddle and Chris Gilthorpe also hit half-centuries as Kimbolton amassed a handy 218-3.

But despite three wickets apiece for the in-form Lee Ingram and Martin Burton, they couldn’t budge the visitors who remained defiant on 163-9.

St Ives went down by four wickets at Fordham.
