DENNIS Greene was planning to name an unchanged side for St Neots Town’s Southern League Division One Central game against Ashford Town on Tuesday night, following their 6-0 thrashing of Marlow on Saturday.

There is a drastic difference between the side’s home and away form, with the 6-0 defeat of bottom-of-the-table Marlow coming exactly a week after the team had lost 1-0 to former bottom-of-the-table side Bedfont Town in London.

“At home we don’t have a problem,” the manager told the Hunts Post, adding: “But away, yes, I might try something different next time.”

Indeed, in their last three home games, the Saints had scored 17 goals and conceded none – if it hadn’t been for the goalkeeping of Jonathon Nydell in the Marlow goal, that number might have been higher.

Greene was able to call on both of his key strikers – Stefan Moore and Shane Tolley – for the match, after Moore had missed their game at Bedfont while serving a one-match suspension.

And both of them scored doubles after increasingly influential midfielder Adrian Sear had opened the scoring with a fabulous early header.

Sear and Junior Konadu were in total control in midfield but Moore, Tolley and winger Dan Jacob all wasted early chances before Sear met Moore’s cross.

Four minutes later it was 2-0 when Moore weaved his way past two defenders to set up Tolley for a simple tap in. Tolley got his second goal on 28 minutes when he headed home Lewis Hilliard’s free kick and then Nydell made his only mistake of the game, dropping the ball from a cross to allow Moore to get his first goal just before half time.

Man of the match Hilliard was once again the provider when he set up Moore for his second – the Saints’ fifth – just minutes into the second half – but the Marlow goalkeeper was brilliant stopping further Moore and Hillard chances before Pearson Mwanyongo got the sixth with his first touch of the ball after coming off the bench.

Hilliard had two further chances and Jacob was unlucky with a saved header, while another substitute Chris Manangu also failed to increase their lead late on.
