GRAFHAM Sailing Club hosted the Volvo Musto Optimist Inland Championships at the weekend, attracting over 300 young sailors to compete in the two classes and meet double Olympic sailing medallist Joe Glanville.

Sailors travelled from across the country to attend the event, and the club was represented by three of its own young sailors. Twelve-year-old Amy Williams competed in the Main Fleet Class, and Hannah Stowe,11, and Katherine Parrish, 10, were looking for glory in the Regatta Fleet.

Podium place finishes eluded the three Grafham sailors, but they placed respectably. Annabel Vose of the Royal Southern Yacht Club (pictured) took the honours in the Main Fleet and Arthur Brown of Royal Burnham Yacht Club won the Regatta Fleet.

Richard Leech, Rear Commodore of Grafham Sailing Club, said he was impressed with the standard of sailing.

"We've had a fantastic weekend of racing here at Grafham Water, and despite some very blustery and challenging conditions all the kids have really risen to the challenge. We were delighted that Olympic sailor Joe Glanfield could come along to speak to all the competitors, which I know has been a real inspiration for them."
